Truly there is nothing in the created universe, in all time and all space, which does not manifest God and reveal his glory to mankind. In creating us God bestowed on us intelligence and reason, thus making us able to recognize this manifestation in the world and in events, so that we might respond to it in love. St. Paul tells us in his letter to the Romans (1:20) that God made himself known to mankind by means of those things which he created, that is, through this universe. We can take this to refer, not only to what God created all alone in the beginning, but also to all that he continues to create throughout time, working through countless secondary causes, and equally to all that he brings about through human cooperation.

Science…means unresting endeavor and continually progressing development toward an aim which the poetic intuition may apprehend, but which the intellect can never fully grasp.
