. . . In Catholicism the feminine aspect is entirely centered on the Virgin Mary. It is the only way a Catholic, or indeed a Christian, can find a feminine figure in relation to God. So devotion to the feminiine archetype centres on the Virgin Mary, but we should recognise that there is a feminine aspect of God himself that the the Virgin Mother is a manifestation of this. This means, in other words, that devotion to the Mother has its origin in God.
Fr. Bede Griffiths
A New Vision of Reality
Blessed sister, holy mother,
spirit of the fountain, spirit of the garden,
Suffer us not to mock ourselves with falsehood
Teach us to care and not care
Teach us to sit still
Even among these rocks,
Our peace in His will
And even among these rocks
Sister, mother
And spirit of the river, spirit of the sea,
Suffer me not to be seperated
And let my cry come unto Thee.
—T.S. Elliot, Ash Wednesday
Were it possible for us to see further
than our knowledge reaches...
perhaps we would endure our sadnesses
with greater confidence
than our joys.
For they are the moments
when something new
has entered into us,
something unknown...
everything in us withdraws,
a stillness comes,
and the new,
which no one knows,
stands in the midst of it
and is silent.
